The association has prime objective to safeguard the interests of the medical profession and the community. IMA was born In 1928 to fight the injustice Inflicted by the foreign rule on the Indian doctors which deprived them of their due position in the professional field and since then IMA has been striving had to combat the injustice against the medical profession and to ensure their rightful position in the country. IMA offers a sense of fellow feeling and fellowship. You can share your good experiences with everybody but bad experience only with another doctor. Only a doctor can be your friend, philosopher and guide.

Today IMA has representations in many advisory bodies, of the central and state Governments, who have appreciated the role played by IMA in the field' of medical education & social services. 

IMA was the first to demand National health Policy, National Drug Policy and National Education Policy. IMA has raised its voice against commercialization of medical education, It has apprised the government of the need for reorientation of medical education, importance of Continued medical education programme and has taken effective steps to disseminate the advanced knowledge amongst the members of the profession.
